Coach Joe

Joseph S. Maniscalco

Coach Joe is the founder of Performance Training Institute and a certified mental training coach. He has been coaching student athletes and acting as a mentor for the past 15 years. Coach Joe has helped hundreds of athletes, both at the high school and the collegiate level, achieve high performance success through his mental training approach. He has also conducted leadership training and motivational sales discussions for several small businesses.

Coach Joe is a local product of Long Island, New York having moved from Brooklyn to Massapequa at 10 years old and then attending Chaminade High School. He went on to play baseball as a pitcher at Division I Fordham University on a full athletic scholarship under Hall of Fame Baseball Coach Dan Gallagher. While at Fordham as a collegiate athlete, Coach Joe was a three-time New York State All-Star (1990-92), and named All-Region twice. Ahead of his senior season in 1992, he was named a pre-season All-American and nominated to try out for the U.S. Olympic Team. In 1990, Coach Joe led the Rams to the NCAA Regionals, and in 1991, had the 7th lowest era in the Country entering the post-season. To this day, he still ranks in the career Top 10 in six pitching categories. While shoulder surgery prevented him from continuing his baseball career professionally, Coach Joe never wavered for his love of the game and his strong mental approach.

After college, Coach Joe pursued his education to a high level earning his Juris Doctorate degree from Hofstra Law School. He is a founding member of LaMonica Herbst & Maniscalco, LLP, which he has helped build into a very successful and reputable boutique law firm. Coach Joe is also an entrepreneur and business owner who has grown and developed and invested in many successful businesses over the years.  He has invested in young student athletes and has acted as a mentor in different collegiate programs.

Coach Joe holds a third-degree brown belt in Kenpo karate and has focused on mental training since college. He obtained a certification as a mental training coach from the Mental Training Institute of Texas and brings extensive academic and practical experience to his coaching style. He is a regular writer for National Fastpitch Coaches Association and has conducted extensive mental training seminars and discussions in several sports. He is also a member of Positive Coaches Alliance and Responsible Sports and a certified coach through Cal Ripken baseball. Coach Joe is the founding member of BlueFire Softball, which takes an organic approach to developing local softball talent in a travel softball program.

Over the years, Coach Joe has coached and trained at every level from little league to college and has witnessed the progress of student athletes from many different aspects of their development.

Coach Joe attributes much of his success to great coaching, his faith in the Lord, and the power of his mind. Coach Joe has developed novel and unique deliverables to create athletes with strong minds who are able to achieve success beyond their expectations. “We are never really physically ready until we are mentally prepared, and that is the mantra I instill in all of my training.”

Coach Joe resides on Long Island with his wife and four daughters all of whom play softball. Two of his daughters play collegiate softball, and two of his daughters play travel softball. Coach Joe is a voracious reader and continues to be a student of the game.
